Everyone who received an invitation by email is part of the target group for the survey. This includes people residing in Norway who are not Norwegian citizens, as well as those who may not have a particular interest in social issues or surveys. Even if you feel you don’t have strong opinions or attitudes on these topics, your participation is still extremely valuable! We encourage all invited participants to take part.
By participating in this survey, you have a valuable opportunity to share your perspectives on important topics that social researchers wish to explore. Your responses will be carefully analyzed and used to improve the understanding of Norway’s total defense. The survey will serve as the foundation for various scientific publications, including books, articles, and reports. These links are verified and secure, and you can safely click on them to go directly to the survey.
Remember to hover over the link or copy it to check that it points to the correct target before clicking on it.
You are only expected to complete one survey, which takes less than 10 minutes to finish.
Once you have completed the survey, you can no longer change your answers. Before submitting, you can navigate forward and backward using the buttons within the survey.

Your responses won’t be saved until you submit them. If you exit the survey before finishing and wish to complete it later, remember to copy the unique link that appears at the beginning when you enter the survey. You can use this link to return to the survey where you left off.
Yes. You may withdraw from the study at any time without providing a reason.
Unfortunately, it’s not possible to sign up for the survey independently. To ensure that the study is representative of the selected Home Guard districts and a broader group of members from Yrkestrafikkforbundet and the Norwegian Union of General Workers (Norsk Arbeidsmandsforbund) , we have sent invitations directly to the relevant participants.
We aim to include the perspectives of all types of participants, not only those with a particular interest in social issues or surveys, and we want to avoid over-representation of any specific group.

We typically respond within 24 hours, and this is the main contact channel for the Total Defense Study 2025.
We collect background information such as gender, age, occupation, education, marital status, responsibility for dependents, type of employment contract, leadership role, and experience with emergency exercises and international operations. This information is used solely to analyze the data meaningfully and not to identify individuals.
The Total Defense Study 2025 strictly follows all research ethics guidelines and the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for handling information. The Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI), responsible for data processing, has obtained project approval from the data protection service at the Norwegian Defence University College (FHS) and its own Data Protection Officer.
We rely on the survey tool Confirmit to conduct and manage the surveys. Confirmit is a globally recognized software system used by several large survey organizations. Although Confirmit has offices inside and outside the EEA, we will store the Total Defense Study 2025 data exclusively within the EU and follow European legislation. Under special circumstances, technical personnel at Confirmit in the USA may assist with technical issues, but this is done under strict security procedures to protect your privacy.
We take your privacy seriously and appreciate your participation to improve the understanding and strengthening of Norway’s total defense.
It won’t be possible for others to link your responses to you personally. We ensure that all collected data is thoroughly anonymized. This means that any identifiable information is removed or combined with responses from others so that your answers can’t be traced back to you.
You can’t be identified in the dataset because we do not collect or have access to your personal data.
However, if you no longer wish to participate in the survey, you can contact us at sporreundersokelse@ffi.no and provide information that will allow us to remove your responses from the dataset.
