Alexander W. Beadle holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in war studies from King’s College London. He joined the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI) in 2011. His research interests include international security, prediction, and defence planning.

Since 2014, he has led the Global trends and military operations project, which identifies and analyses developments of relevance to Norway’s national security the next 15–25 years.

From 2017 to 2020, he organized the FFI Forecasting Tournament, which collected half a million predictions from experts and amateurs on international security issues. Beadle is currently writing his PhD at the University of Oslo based on the results from this forecasting tournament.

Beadle has also worked on military intervention in civil wars. He has developed guidelines on how military force can be used to protect civilians in different scenarios. This research is currently used in NATO and UN operational planning and taught at staff officer courses.
